How did you attract and address your audience?
Before we made the opening to a horror movie we had to go through stages of planning and research. This included a questionnaire giving details of certain aspects the audience would like to see in a horror opening. This questionnaire helped a lot towards the making to a horror opening it gave us a basic outline as to what things were to be needed in the horror opening and what kind of setting and cast the audience would like to see. From the questionnaire results we found that most of the target audience wanted to see certain things within our opening to a teen horror film. These things included:
Going back to the questionnaire results these results had a massive impact towards the making of the film. Without these results we would have never had the right opening to a horror film that this particular kind of audience would want to see. We decided to make it as relatable as possible with the audience therefore this meant we had to use:
Being teenagers ourselves we already knew certain things we wanted to see within our horror opening which was good because we had an idea of what other members of our target audience wanted to see. Also because we vary in age within our group to the same age we wanted our target audience it was a lot easier to put our own ideas across because usually teenagers look for certain things within a horror film which was something we took on board.
Overall the audience that we wanted to draw attention to we're from the ages of 15 and on wards. We show this through the different uses of mis en scene. We were influenced from the big major horror films to select our kind of cast for our opening to a horror film which made us pick the audience too. Mainly our casting and stereotypes were the main part which could link in and have a sense of connection with the audience. Once I uploaded the video of our opening to horror film to You Tube I decided to give it a couple of weeks for the views to go up I then decided to look at the statistics of the video and saw what age and gender of the audience had been watching our opening. This is what our statistics looked like:
As you can see from our views of the You Tube video the top viewers were female aged from 13 and upwards. This good because this is close to wear we wanted to get our audience. The only reason it's at the age rate of 13 is because you cannot set the age rate on You Tube unless you get permission from the company or become a You Tube partner. Therefore this shows closely if this was to be shown in the cinema that we would defiantly attract the teenagers in watching this as the age rate would have to be 15. Again this shows that the genders that have watched the film are mostly females. This is probably due to the fact that in the first opening scene there are mainly female actors and 1 male actor as the killer.
From these print screen shots of the statistics of the opening to a horror film it suggest that we have aimed our opening to a horror film toward the right kind of target audience because this is kind of the right age rate we were going for. Also the fact that the ages are between 13 - 34 years is brilliant because some of the older people viewing this say in the mid 20's early 30's could be studying at university which can still link towards our characters from the setting of the horror film.
This is a video filmed, edited and interviewed by another member of our group called Erica Hall. As a group we decided to film someone watching a screening of our opening to a horror film to get their reaction and do a 1 on 1 interview asking questions about the interview. I decided to link in the video (like the other group members did for this evaluation). One thing I liked about this interview would be the way that we get to see Kate (the audience) reaction to the opening, which is good because this is the kind of reaction we were going for. We asked relatable questions like what her name and how old she is which is 16. As we can see from Kate's view of the horror opening she liked it and though that the atmosphere and setting linked in well with the final kill and the soundtrack built the tension throughout. This is something in our group that we wanted to hear from the audience.
Overall from the Interview and the statistics from the You Tube video you can see the kind of audience we attracted from the gender to the ages. Also from the You Tube video of the interview we got to see a reaction to the opening scene and the reaction we got was something that we wanted from the planning process. I think overall from the reaction it shows how our research and planning went into finding the right target audience for our film and how it was successful in how it ended.

Without these results we would have never had the right opening to a horror film that this particular kind of audience would want to see. We decided to make it as relatable as possible with the audience therefore this meant we had to use:
- · The most obvious stereotypes you get within a high school for each characters
- · The school atmosphere and setting
- · 3 characters at the start there for later on we can add more into this group of friends and kill them off
- · A mysterious killer which will have the creepy caretaker look
- · The kind of costumes that these school kids would wear
