Filming Shooting Hours

Time line of The Shooting Hours

When filming for our opening to a horror film we had a strict outline as to what times we needed to film certain scenes.

Filming 10th February - Time limit 10:00am - 12:00am (may run over if it’s down to poor weather)
Postpone filming if it’s raining for evening time or start shooting again on the 11th February.

Start

10:00 am - Needs to be done straight away before school kids start to come out to go to different lessons

10:15 am - Filming down alley way. Allow time for setting up tripod and marking up where we will place the camera/tripod for different uses of angles.

10:25 am - Start to film in the woods (because of shooting conditions this may have to change due to rain and gloomy weather. May have to film at a later time during the mid-afternoon depending on weather) - Dark place means gloomy atmosphere great for this kind of style of film however health and safety with the camera needs to be thought about if raining therefore we either wait for later during the day or we postpone the shooting until the next day.

10:45 am - Move further in woods. However if too dark because of poor lighting from the weather (as its winter) will need to be rescheduled later on in the mid afternoon.

11:00 am - Break for a little while, Allow characters to change any costumes if necessary, Fix up on fake blood and props. Allow time to make the fake blood.

11:10 am - Only quick amount of time for change of costume and props, Needs to be done quickly due to poor weather.

11:15 am - Carry on with filming further into the woods. Check health and safety due to mud tracks on the path way can cause damage to those involved in making of the opening scene

11:30 am - Couple of takes of the walk down and killing scene. (Needs to be done right and taken time, however if rain is interfering postpone for the next day)

11:45 am - Allow time to clear up in the woods, Take photos for research.

11:50 am - Characters next scene change of clothes. Costume change needs to be done in the right time.

11:55 am - Shoot final scene of 2 girls. Needs to be done in good lighting conditions and quickly due to hearing the school bell.

12:00 am - That's a Wrap of filming. (Anything that looks to dark or not good in playback will have to be shot again the next day)

Finish

Although the lighting of a dark atmosphere would be very good for our horror opening we needed light conditions too as we wanted it set at after school hours in the opening. This meant some shots needed to be dark others lighter. Due to poor weather conditions it was raining in some scenes however it added to the atmosphere of the set creating a spookier vibe. This meant we had to think about the safety of working with electronics in the rain which meant we had to keep the video camera covered.
